Medicare Changing Advantage Plans So You Can Switch After Three Months
Starting in 2019, you will no longer be trapped in the same Medicare Advantage program that you chose in 2018.  You can now test drive a program and switch to another program within the first three months.  This change was mandated by Congress in the 21st Century Cures Act, designed to accelerate innovation in health care.  This can be very useful if you are prescribed an expensive medication and it may benefit you to switch plans.

    Medicare Slowly Expanding Telemedicine Coverage
Medicare is slowly but surely expanding its coverage of telemedicine.  In 2019, it will cover over the phone or via a video conference call with a doctor for those being treated for a stroke and for those in end-stage renal disease.  It’s not much, but it’s something!

    Medicare Advantage Plans Cheating Seniors
The Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services has found that many Medicare Advantage plans have been improperly denying claims, leaving seniors holding the bill for medical claims that their insurance was supposed to pay for.  More than 20 million people—more than one-third of all Medicare beneficiaries—signed up for these type of insurance plans this year.  Very few people appeal denied claims despite the fact that 75% of appealed claims are actually successful at
